More than half of all British women (54 per cent - which is more than 15 million ladies) will select special underwear for a Valentine’s date, and a third of the nation’s women will even invest in new lingerie for the occasion.
Toni-Ann Lindsay, TU at Sainsbury’s Lingerie Buyer said: 'This survey really highlights that women are embracing their curves and feeling confident about their figures.
'You might expect classic model-sized ladies to be more confident and adventurous. However it seems that the curvier ladies are more likely to choose sexier and chic underwear this Valentine’s Day.'
'We’ve seen a big uplift in women buying more fashion forward underwear this year, and sales are already up by a quarter this week [compared to the same period last year], indicating that they’re embracing new looks.
Ms Lindsay added: 'A key trend looking ahead to summer is paler pastel colours with once popular black falling by the way side.'
