Hollywood Set to Get Its First Public Restroom and Visitor Center
Big news for one of L.A.’s most iconic neighborhoods: Hollywood is finally getting its very first public restroom. In a unanimous 13-0 vote, the Los Angeles City Council approved a plan to open a visitor information center and public bathroom right in the heart of Hollywood.
The new facility will be located at 1627 Vine Street and will be part of the Hollywood Walk of Fame Public Amenities Project. The city is partnering with Hollywood Partnership Ventures—an affiliate of the Hollywood Partnership Community Trust (HPCT)—to bring the long-awaited project to life.
“This will be, believe it or not, the first public bathroom in Hollywood,” said Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez, who represents the district. He added that once the contract is finalized, the center could be up and running within about a year.
What’s Coming
The planned development will include:
The site is currently a city-owned property that’s been underutilized for years, including a retail space that’s been vacant for quite some time. Though the city previously tried to find tenants for the space back in 2017 and 2018, earlier efforts fell flat—until now.
More Than Just a Bathroom
With the Hollywood Walk of Fame just steps away, city officials hope this project will not only serve tourists but also provide basic services for the area’s unhoused population. Social service groups, residents, and local businesses have all voiced strong support for the project.
The Hollywood Partnership Community Trust will cover the full construction costs. Meanwhile, the City of Los Angeles is contributing $1 million from CRA/LA Excess Bond Proceeds—funds specifically designated to fight urban blight and support infrastructure projects. An additional $500,000 in state funding has also been secured to support design and construction.
The lease for the site will align with the existing contract for the Hollywood Entertainment District Business Improvement District (BID), which runs through the end of 2028.
A Long Time Coming
While it may seem surprising that Hollywood, one of the most visited neighborhoods in the world, doesn’t already have a public bathroom, this project marks a long-overdue step in improving both the visitor experience and public services in the area.
So whether you're a local, a tourist, or someone in need of a clean and safe space, help is finally on the way—and Hollywood is getting just a bit more hospitable.
