Paramount pulled off a classic Mission: Impossible-style stunt this week to celebrate the digital release of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning.
On Wednesday, the franchise’s official X account teased fans with what looked like the ultimate giveaway: “Full movie on YouTube now.” But of course, this was no ordinary drop.
Clicking the link didn’t deliver the blockbuster straight to your screen. Instead, viewers were met with what appeared to be an IMF spy radio broadcasting a long stream of beeps — Morse code. As it turns out, the entire script of the eighth Mission: Impossible film was cleverly transmitted through dots and dashes.
The YouTube video’s description kept the joke going:
“A secure livestream of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning full movie is running now. But the Entity has infiltrated every major streaming platform, so this livestream was compromised. The full script had to be transmitted in Morse Code to avoid detection. We need your help decoding it. Your mission begins now.”
Fans couldn’t comment on YouTube, but X lit up with reactions. One called it “peak trolling” while another simply wrote, “The entire script in Morse Code. Insane! Love it lol.” The gag also happened to land perfectly on National Radio Day.
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, The Final Reckoning marks Tom Cruise’s last run as Ethan Hunt, with Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, and Simon Pegg co-starring. The film hit theaters in May and is now available on digital platforms, with a Paramount+ debut coming soon.
