Virtual reality has come a long way, but let’s be honest—most of us are still experiencing it from the couch or standing in one spot, waving controllers around. Not exactly the full “living inside the game” fantasy.

That’s where the Omni One comes in.

This new VR system is designed to get you off the couch and into the action—literally. Instead of relying on thumbsticks to move, the Omni One lets you physically walk, run, and even jump your way through virtual worlds.

Created by tech company Virtuix, the system has been more than a decade in the making. CEO Jan Goetgeluk says the goal was simple: make VR feel natural by using your whole body, not just your hands.

And the setup is pretty wild.

The Omni One uses a low-friction, bowl-shaped platform paired with special shoes that let you glide as you move. You’re secured into a support ring for stability, so you can walk or run in place without worrying about losing your balance. Once you strap on a VR headset—like the popular Meta Quest—you’re ready to go.

The result? A much more immersive experience than traditional VR.

At first, there’s a bit of a learning curve. Walking on a slick surface while your brain thinks you’re trekking through ancient ruins or city streets can feel strange. But once it clicks, it starts to feel surprisingly natural—and a whole lot more engaging than standing still.

Beyond gaming, there’s another big selling point: fitness.

Think of it as a Peloton for gamers. You’re not just playing—you’re moving, getting your steps in, and actually breaking a sweat while exploring virtual environments.

Of course, that next-level experience comes at a price. The Omni One starts around $2,600 (headset not included), and there’s an optional subscription—about $14 a month—for access to certain online games.

Still, for gamers looking to fully step inside their favorite worlds, this might be as close as it gets… at least until we’re all living in the metaverse for real.
