What should have been a picture-perfect ballpark memory for one young fan turned into a viral moment of drama — thanks to a woman the internet has already dubbed “Phillies Karen.”

Drew Feltwell, a lifelong Phillies fan who now lives in Florida, took his wife and two kids to see the Phillies play the Marlins in Miami on Friday night. In the fourth inning, Phillies center fielder Harrison Bader smashed a home run right into the section where Feltwell’s family was sitting.

Like any dad would, Feltwell scrambled for the ball, scooped it up, and placed it right into the glove of his 9-year-old son, Lincoln. “I was ecstatic — I got Bader’s home run ball and handed it to my son. It was a special moment,” Feltwell told NBC Philadelphia.

But before the family could celebrate, that’s when she showed up.

A woman in a Phillies jersey stormed over, yelling that the ball was hers. Video shared on social media shows her shouting in Feltwell’s ear, demanding the souvenir. After a tense exchange, Feltwell decided to hand it over — not because she was right, but because he didn’t want things to escalate in front of his kids.

“I had a fork in the road: either do something I’d regret or show my son how to deescalate a situation,” Feltwell explained. “So that’s where I went.”

Lincoln wasn’t thrilled about giving up the prized ball, admitting, “I wasn’t very happy that we had to give it to her. But we can’t win.”

Fortunately, the night had a happy ending. The Marlins gave Lincoln a goodie bag, and after the game, Bader himself met the family and gifted Lincoln a signed bat.

Meanwhile, the hunt for “Phillies Karen” has turned into a full-blown internet mystery. The woman was later caught on video flipping off an entire section of fans after being booed, and online sleuths have been trying — unsuccessfully — to figure out who she is. One innocent Red Sox fan even had to clear her name on Facebook after being misidentified.

The Hammonton, New Jersey school district also had to step in, issuing a tongue-in-cheek statement denying she was one of their employees:

“Anyone in our community would’ve caught the ball bare-handed in the first place, avoiding this entire situation!”

As for whether Feltwell expects to ever see the ball again or get an apology? He doesn’t. “That would still be hard for her to do,” he said.

At least Lincoln still walked away with a story he’ll never forget — and a bat signed by the guy who hit that home run.
