Eyes on the Sky: SpaceX Plans Two Starlink Launches from Southern California This Week
Posted by Johnny Ice on July 28 2025

Southern California skywatchers are in for a treat as SpaceX gears up for not just one—but two—rocket launches this week from Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County.

The first launch is set for Wednesday, July 30, with a window between 8:39 a.m. and 12:39 p.m. A Falcon 9 rocket will carry 19 Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit as part of SpaceX’s ongoing mission to expand its global internet network.

This particular Falcon 9 booster will be making its 27th flight, continuing SpaceX's record-breaking streak of rocket reusability. After liftoff, the first-stage booster is expected to perform a controlled landing on a droneship stationed in the Pacific Ocean.

Depending on weather and launch conditions, residents in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties may hear a sonic boom as the rocket travels through the atmosphere.

But that’s not all—SpaceX has a second Starlink mission lined up for Saturday, August 2, with a launch window between 7:05 p.m. and 11:05 p.m. This nighttime launch could offer an even more dramatic show, with a bright trail of light visible across the evening sky.

So, whether you're an avid space fan or just happen to glance upward at the right moment, don’t miss your chance to witness history as it happens—twice in one week.
